This ring is more than just jewelry

Our son Scot graduates from Missouri State today.  He will receive a ring from Jane and I today that we had made for him fifteen years ago and set aside for this very occaision.  It's a lot more than just a ring...just a piece of jewelry.

Scot's ring is one of a matching set of three that we had hand engraved with our family crest.  This is a crest that was designed by our ancestors in the 16th century.  I wear one of the rings from the set.  This is the ring htat my father wore up until his passing this last February.  There is also a matching ring still set aside for our other son, Mark.  When Scot is with his paternal family, he'll see that, as evidenced by the crest rings in that group, he is part of the fabric of the history of his family.  The mantle reads "Deus Sibi Adjuvanti Adjuvat".  Translated, this means "God helps those that help themselves.  Like so many parents of young adults receiving their diplomas today,  I hope that our son takes up that mantle and accepts the kind of challenges in his life that bring out his best efforts.  I believe that hte greatest sense of accolmplishment in life comes from stepping up, working hard, working smart, and risking much..... and succeeding!

The crest ring....It's a lot more than just a piece of jewelry!  Wear it proudly son!  Congratulations!

Love,  Mom and Dad
